Welcome to the web site of the Otoe-Missouria Consumer Finance Regulatory Commission (“CFRC”). The CFRC charters, regulates, supervises and examines tribal-chartered financial institutions. CFRC has jurisdiction over Otoe-Missouria licensed consumer lending.
The Consumer Finance Regulatory Commission’s mission is to charter, supervise, and regulate Otoe-Missouria tribal and non-tribal individuals, firms, companies, associations, and other businesses providing consumer financial services within Otoe-Missouria tribal territories and/or with Otoe-Missouria tribal members and/or chartered Otoe-Missouria corporations.
In the case of lending institutions, the statutory charge is to charter, regulate, supervise, and safeguard the interest of shareholders, members, and consumers through on-site examinations and remedial action orders. The primary activity of the Commission is the examination of supervised lending institutions to determine their financial strength and solvency.
In the case of persons or entities that provide financial services to the public, the statutory requirement is that these entities register with the Commission and that the Commission ensures credit is extended to consumers in terms that are fair, lawful, and easily understood.
The Commission has a secondary mission to assist the development of the financial services industry in the tribe for the benefit of its members and the community in all ways consistent with safe and sound business practices.
The Commission provides a source of information and assistance to the consumer in connection with all forms of consumer lending products and services.
The Commission is concerned with preservation and development of the tribe's role in providing financial services.
